MATCH DAY - 11052000SUNDAY FC 1 - WENZHAO'S TEAM 3 PLAYERS : 1 - Paul ; 4 - Ryan ; 6 - Fairoz ; 7 - Sirong ; 8 - SzeHua ; 9 - Hong Pin ; 10 - Choung ; 14 - Chuwen ; 15 - Daryl ; 19 - Welfred ; 20 - Wesley ; 22 - Jason ; 23 - Ming Sheng GOAL SCORERS : Daryl MATCH REPORT by Sirong After the long dreaded exams for many of us who are still in the U, it's good to be on the pitch again. We have back Ming Sheng who is first to get back from overseas. Also, Welfred making a rare appearance. Our opponents are a team consisting of several players of inter-school level. The first-half started off with our team hustling for every ball, refusing to be intimidated by their superior footballing skills. With Daryl magnificent in attack, we surprised everybody by taking the lead. He ran down the right flank, shaking off his defender and fired past the keeper form an acute angle. Daryl proved to be a thorn in their defence, constantly making threatening moves. But very soon, they soon settled down with neat one touch passes and mazy runs. We managed to hold on to our slim lead until a penalty was considered by Hong Pin in the most unfortunate of circumstances. While defending one of their onslaught on our goal, the ball unfortunately struck his hand. And from the penalty spot, the scores were leveled. They continued to press forward and we were restricted to counter-attacks. Despite that, we still managed to compose ourselves together and strung together a few threatening moves, with Daryl orchestrating most of them. However, we succumb to a second goal, a shot which came from a sea of players just outside the area. Paul was beaten by a well-placed shot and we were 2 - 1 down. On the stroke of halftime, Sze Hua unfortunately injured his knee and had to be carried out. In the second-half, they overran us in the midfield with quick, short passing. Fatigue started to come into our side and they were controlling us. We refused to give up and defended well for most part of the half. They could have easily added to their lead had they not waste all their chances, including a missed penalty. Again, with counter-attacking moves, we could score ourselves had we been more prolific in front of goal. By moving forward, they too left holes in the defence for us to exploit. But eventually, they scored with a powerful shot and the game ended 3 - 1. |
